Welcome to the valley of the dolls in Brazil

Sounds far fetched?

Not if you consider this picturesque 600-strong community of Noiva do Cordeiro in south-east Brazil.

Men are scarce here, which has led to some of the women, who are known throughout Brazil for their beauty, to put out an appeal for single men, reported UK's The Telegraph.

"Here, the only men we single girls meet are either married or related to us; everyone is a cousin," said Miss Nelma Fernandes, 23.

"We all dream of falling in love and getting married. But we like living here and don't want to have to leave the town to find a husband."

WOMEN RUN TOWN

Many of the men here work in the city.

A writer from The Telegraph who visited the town said there was quite a scurry of excitement when he turned up.

"But this is normal Belo Vale hospitality, not because the single women are desperate for me to fling myself at their feet.

"Indeed, many of them insist they are quite happy the way they are...But there are others who are looking for love," said Mr Harry Wallop.

Mrs Rosalee Fernandes, a councillor, however, told The Times of London that half of the village's 300 residents were men who came home at weekends, which could pose problems for any male showing up and hoping for an easy date.

She said: "We have suffered so much over the years from disinformation and calumny."
